New FFOZ Seminar Coming to Central Arkansas

Learn the words of Jesus from a Messianic Jewish perspective. “A Jewish Sermon on the Mount: Exploring the Core Teachings of Jesus from a Hebraic Perspective” introduces the Hebrew idioms, Jewish contexts, and rabbinic methods at work in Jesus’ most famous sermon. Jewish Sermon on the Mount provides a brief introduction to Matthew 5–7 using a new, Hebrew-based translation of the New Testament that allows English readers to see the Hebraisms of the Master’s teaching and the richness of the Hebrew words.

The Hebrew/English Sermon on the Mount

There will be three teachings in a course of 2.5 hours. There will be breaks and time for questions. Everyone attending will receive an extract of Matthew 5–7 from the new Hebrew/English Gospel edition scheduled for release in the fall of 2010. Attendance is free—there will be a donation box on a table for all those that desire to help with the related expense.

Services Cancelled for May 15

We have several elders out of town this Shabbat for Shavuot and therefore we regretfully will have to cancel Shabbat services this week May 15, 2010.

We are still trying to determine a new meeting location, so our meeting for the following week, May 22, is still up in the air. We will post an announcement & send out an email as soon as we know something for this date. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

New Meeting Location

We are thankful to announce we will be meeting at a new location for our Sabbath fellowship. Erik and Tara Leamon (pronounced “lemon”) of Conway have generously opened their home for us to use (see directions below). This will be such a blessing as the Leamon Home has a lot more space to accommodate us during this interim period as we continue our search for a more permanent location.

We will continue our same schedule for Shabbat as follows. We welcome everyone to come anytime and leave anytime. We have an open door policy.

9:30am – Shacharit (Morning) Prayer Service

10:30am – Reading of the Torah, Haftarah, Apostolic Writings (NT)

12:30pm – Oneg (Potluck Lunch) You can read more on our food guidelines here.

1:30pm – Sing Praises, Praise/Prayer Requests, You Be The Judge with the children

2:30pm – Drash (Teaching by Jeff Croswell or Darren Huckey)

Now that we will have space to accommodate class(es) for children, we will be planning a structured time of learning for the children during the Drash session. Until that is implemented the children will have supervised playtime.

From Conway:

Take Hwy 25 (toward Beaverfork Lake).

You will go under the interstate and then turn on second RIGHT onto Cadron Gap (there’s a faded sign at this turn that says “Lakeview Acres”).

Take Cadron Gap for 1.3 miles. The road forks about halfway down, so you want to veer left and stay on the main road.

The house is #3 Lakeview Drive. It’s on the right and is a white 2-story w/ blacktop circle drive in front.

From Greenbrier/ Hwy 65:

Turn at Pickles Gap Village onto Lakeview Drive.

Drive 2.5 miles on Lakeview Drive.

The house is on the top of a steep hill on your left and is white 2-story w/ blacktop circle drive in front. #3 Lakeview Drive.

Parking:

There is space in front of the house in the circle drive and on the right side of the house there is a driveway in front of the garage. The street on the right of the house can be used if needed as well.

Messianic Dance Camps International

You are invited to a one-night dance camp presented by a messianic family, the Seta Family, who travels during the summer doing these workshops for fellow believers. The camp will be in Russellville, AR at the messianic synagogue, Chiam B’Derech (Life in The Way). I do not know the Seta family yet, but look forward to meeting them and worshipping with them. Until further notice, we will be meeting at the Huckey’s Home (135 Hwy 89 South • Mayflower, AR) for Shabbat Services. We will be starting with our Shacharit Prayer Service at 9:30am for whoever would like to come at this time. Our Torah Service will start at 10:30am and Oneg (Potluck Lunch) will be around 12:30pm. Conway Torah Portions Classes Are Underway!

The Torah Portions classes are designed to take the ancient reading schedule of the last two thousand plus years and energize it with the perspective of the teachings of both ancient Jewish wisdom and that of Christ. Come study the Bible with us and find out what it’s like to understand the Bible like Jesus and his disciples understood it. The classes are free and open to people of all denominations and backgrounds.

There are two separate groups meeting in an effort to accommodate various schedules.

Simchat Torah of Arkansas will be hosting a very special weekend with Boaz Michael, Founder and President of First Fruits of Zion on August 23-24. It will be a great time to meet messianic believers from all over the state of Arkansas as we come together to fellowship, to worship the  Lord and to experience The Commandment to Bless seminar.

Community-wide Shabbat Service

Our weekend will begin Shabbat, August 23 at 9:30 am with a community-wide Shabbat service, hosted by Simchat Torah of Arkansas. Our Shabbat schedule will be as follows:

9:30 am - Shacharit (liturgical prayers, reading of Torah, Haftarah & Apostolic Writings)

The Commandment to Bless seminar

The Commandment to Bless seminar will be held the following day, Sunday, August 24 at 3:00 pm. There will be three sessions lasting approximately 45 minutes each, with breaks between the sessions. We will close out the day with finger foods and fellowship after the seminar during which time we invite you to participate in the experience of blessing according to the commandment, as well as getting to know other fellow believers. Please spread the word to friends and family so we can make this event a success!

Monday, September 29 = Erev Rosh HaShanah (Eve of the New Year)

Tuesday, September 30 = Rosh HaShanah (New Year 5769 & New Month of Tishrei)

In the Bible, this day is called Yom Teruah or the “Day of Blowing.” It’s the Feast of Trumpets when the shofar is sounded 100 times during this one day! It also begins the 10 Days of Awe (a time of serious self-evaluation and reconciliation with your fellow man) leading up to Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement).

Thursday, October 2 = Tzom Gedaliah (Fast of Gedaliah)

The 3rd of Tishrei is a minor fast day. It commemorates the assassination of Gedaliah ben Achikam, governor of the First Jewish Commonwealth of Israel; after his death Jewish autonomy came to an end.

Zechariah 8:19 mentions this as the fast of the seventh month:

This is what the L-RD Almighty says: “The fasts of the fourth, fifth, seventh and tenth months will become joyful and glad occasions and happy festivals for Judah. Therefore love truth and peace.”

Ushpizin
is filmed in Israel and it takes place during Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles). It is a story about a chassidic couple who left a secular life and are now living a life of devotion to HaShem. As they face life’s tests they see how G-D answers their prayers. It is in Hebrew, but has English subtitles. For the children there will be a different movie showing for them upstairs, but they are welcome to watch Ushpizin with their parents’ permission. (The Croswell & Huckey children enjoy this movie and it gives them exposure to the Hebrew language and Jewish culture.)

Thursday, October 9 = Yom Kippur (Day of Atonement)

Service time and location to be announced. This is a major fast day commanded in the Torah.

Tuesday, October 14 thru Monday, October 20 = Sukkot (Feast of Tabernacles)

Join us as we camp out through this holiday! Location to be announced. We will be arriving and setting up camp ahead on Monday, October 13th. You don’t have to camp the whole time; come and go as your schedule allows.

Tuesday, October 21 = Shemini Atzeret (8th Day)

Time and location to be announced. This is the closing celebration after the seven days of Sukkot. It is technically a holiday all on its own.

Wednesday, October 22 = Simchat Torah (Rejoicing in the Torah)

This commemorates the ending and beginning of the annual Torah cycle. We will dance, sing and rejoice!

SUKKOT (Feast of Tabernacles)

**Dates: Sunday, October 12th – Thursday, October 16th

Place: Choctaw Recreation Park on Greers Ferry Lake

There will be at least four messianic congregations represented at this location! Two of our families (Croswells & Huckeys) plan to arrive on Sunday, October 12th to set up camp early. We will be available to help others who arrive on Monday to set up before the Sabbath starts at sundown.

**Our group will only be staying these dates of the festival week at this location. Some groups plan to stay for the whole festival.

Site: #95 is reserved–if you plan to camp, find a spot near that site.
